Skills Performance Stage

Visitors to skillscymru enjoyed watching real people showcasing real skills on the Skills Performance Stage all be compered by your favourite DJ’s from Wales’ Real Radio. There was a packed programme of exciting demonstrations on the stage. Visitors were thrilled and inspired from dance to sign singing; from ready steady cook to ready steady hair!



Extravaganza presented by Neath Port Talbot College
Students from the School of Creative, Visual and Performing Arts showcased their wealth of talent by
demonstrating a range of performances, highlighting dance, music and fashion. The students brought to life a
variety of performances inspired by leading West End musicals, featuring original choreographed works by college
dance lecturer, Craig Coombs who recently reached the semi-finals of Sky 1’s ‘Got to Dance’. The performers wore costumes created by textiles students and were styled by students from the School of Hair and
Beauty.

Ready, Steady and Cook presented by Neath Port Talbot College
Are you the next Jamie Oliver….this session offered the chance to be a chef in the ready, steady and cook competition. Two college chefs were looking for two budding cooks to help them create a cake fit for the queen or a mocktail to whet your appetite.

Sign Language Sing Along presented by Neath Port Talbot College
Ever thought you could sign your favourite song? Visitors watched students from the pre-vocational department of Neath Port Talbot demonstrate their amazing sign language skills by signing along to current chart hits!

Avant Garde Hairdressing – Ga Ga Style presented by ISA Training
Visitors watched Laura Kelland (winner of Salon Cymru 2010 and part of Great Britain’s junior hairdressing team) and Stacey Ranson of the Hair Business Cowbridge and Salon create futuristic avant garde hair similar to their Salon Cymru winning looks.

Ready, Steady, Hair presented by ISA Training
David Pearce and Sian Standing (part of the ISA’s training artistic team) picked audience members to participate in this ready, steady, hair extravagance, creating impressive hair designs against the clock.

TruDynaMix presented by Bridgend College
Fresh from their appearance in the live finals of Channel 5’s hot music show ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, TryDynaMix wowed the skillscymru audience with a medley of songs and a dance routine to stop you in your tracks.

Dance Explosion presented by Treorchy Comprehensive School
Students from Treorchy Comprehensive School put together a dance explosion of Street, Latin American, Jive, Bollywood and Divas to impress the crowd!

Dance Sensation by Funk Fatale
Funk Fatale is an all girl troop aged 16-21 and are former members of the acclaimed Jukebox Juniors dance team. The girls have a distinctive hip-hop and funk style; it was a show not to be missed.

Winners! CLIConline Battle of the Bands Competition
Music lovers did not miss the closing ceremony of skillscymru when the crowned winners of the CLIC Battle of the Bands (BOTB) competition took to the main stage. The winners, who fought off stiff competition from the other four finalists, and who won an impressive list of prizes including a week's studio time and professional music video and photo shoots were there to show the crowd they have what it takes to be the next big thing.

The Biggest Welsh Lesson
Learning a new language is a great skill. All visitors to skillscymru had the chance to get involved in skillscymru’s biggest ever Welsh lesson and learn a few new phrases.
