Are you wondering what options you have? You may want to upgrade your existing skills, learn new skills, have a complete career MOT or just find a job and need help preparing your CV, practice interview questions or find out where to get more help. Whatever your reasons come along to skillscymru you’ll be able to find out more about careers, tips on getting the ideal job and what options are available.

What?
skillscymru is the biggest careers and skills event; it will have expert seminars, insightful master classes, impartial advisers as well as hands-on, have a go features. In short it will be the most interactive, exciting careers event in Wales for everyone.

When?
Thursday 16 & Friday 17 September 9.30am to 3pm
Saturday 18 September 10am to 4pm

You can visit at any time, but the big groups are being encouraged to visit on Thursday and Friday, so we recommend you visit on Saturday 18, it will be more relaxed and the 100 exhibitors will be hoping to meet individuals, families and small groups. To make sure you benefit from updates and news about the event we suggest you pre-register but you can just turn up.

skillscymru will be separated into zones so you can find the right area for you. When you arrive at skillscymru you’ll receive a free show guide and you can then find your own way around, so a bit of planning and preparation means you can target what you want to see.

There will be dedicated experts on hand to give you all the advice and guidance you need in specialist drop in clinics. You can get individual advice on careers and the education and training routes available.

skillscymru is a huge event with lots of companies so spend some time looking at the exhibitor list and planning which ones you want to meet. You can find out more about the exhibitors in each zone and click through to their websites so you can ask the right questions.

Try to get to your target stand before the busy lunchtime period.

Once you have decided who you want to see, think about what they will want to see from you, such as a CV, examples of work, etc. Bring plenty of copies your CV. Don’t panic if you haven’t got an up to date CV there will be advisers on hand to help you create a spotless CV.

Practice makes perfect. Don’t head for your top choice company straight away. Try and meet a few exhibitors first as a warm-up.

Look smart, companies will want to picture you in their companies, it’s not just about the clothes you’re wearing it’s about your body language, look calm and confident.

If you get on well with a potential employer, make sure you take their contact details so you can follow up with a letter or telephone call.

There will be lots of information but don’t just collect bags and freebies– unless you use the information it won’t help you. Share the brochures with family, friends and advisers; you might find they can help you get where you want to be.

Remember employers don’t just want good qualifications they also want the right person and that might be you.
